Second International Conference on Peer – Mediation, Institutional Support and Regionalization
The OSCE Mission to Skopje and the German organization forumZiviler Friedensdienst (forum Civil Peace Service) have the pleasure of inviting you to the Second International Conference on Peer – Mediation, Institutional Support and Regionalization. The conference will take place at Sileks Hotel in Ohrid, from 10 to 12 October 2013 (Thursday-Saturday), and will be organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science.
The conference will gather 50 participants from the Ministries of Education in the region, schools, universities and other educational institutions, and international and civil society organizations from the Balkan region and several European countries.
The conference will bring together international experience on mediation and will provide a unique opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation by sharing knowledge and expertise on school mediation and peace education. It will compare approaches, further deepen knowledge of mediation practices and promote mediation as an alternative non-violent conflict resolution tool in schools.
The following topics will be covered during the conference:
- possibilities for institutionalization of mediation
- legal mediation – school mediation, comparison
- mechanisms and tools for integrating peer mediation in schools
- curriculum development for training of school and peer mediators
- regional standards and approaches to mediation/formalizing regional cooperation?
- cooperation between government and non-government sector
- the challenges of evaluating mediation
- the role of mediation in overcoming ethnic and cultural differences/strategies for reducing school violence
Eligible participants are experts on and practitioners of school and peer mediation and/or peace education. Please note that all participants are expected to contribute to the discussions or prepare a presentation on one of the above topics, either individually or in groups.
There is no participation fee for the conference. The organizers will provide free accommodation, meals and transport from Skopje to the conference venue and back (Sileks Hotel in Ohrid). However, the organizers will not cover any additional travel expenses.
The official language of the conference will be English.
